Malefor is the child of prophecy, the first purple dragon.
The significance of this is only just coming to light, with his discovery of not just one, but two Elements; something previously thought impossible.
A world-changing destiny weighs on his shoulders; what exactly the Ancestors intend for him to achieve, is unclear.
Personality
Malefor is deemed a strange child. This is not merely a product of his upbringing, wherein he had almost no company of other children, but simply his nature. He is energetic, blunt, and though social and largely friendly, he is not shy to violence, nor his genocidal destiny. In fact, he is quite passionate about this.
After all, he was born specifically for some great purpose, and thus, it must be a just one?
History
Pre-Destiny Intertwined
To Malefor's knowledge, his egg was abandoned at the Ancestor Temple three decades before his hatching; a clear sign of what dragons call Ancestral Intervention—his hatching delayed until the appropriate time. His parentage is unknown. [Page 135]
He was raised at the Ancestor Temple, with occasional visits to the Titan Fields and Concurrent Skies Temples. He has rarely gone elsewhere, for the sake of his safety. The Elder Guardians raised him, and tutored him alongside the very best Warfang has to offer.
Despite his grand destiny, he did not awaken in his first years what was expected to be a new element. Even the average age of elemental awakening passed him by, teenage years began, also seeming to pass on with not a lick of dragon magic...
Destiny Intertwined | Chapter 2
One day, Malefor was told of a new kind of training; other dragons his age. Thrilling! His excitement could be barely contained—still, he put on a trained composure for the Flight selected to face him. [Page 35]
This Flight had a dark dragon in it. Strange! Oh well. Malefor had more important things on his mind. He wanted to finally see how he measured up to his peers, Element or not. His excitement quickly spread on his face, disturbing his first opponent somewhat. [Page 36, 37]
The first one wasn't too difficult. The others, even easier. One by one, he defeated the other young dragons. But what about the dark dragon, Hayze? [Page 38-43]
They let him fight that one. Malefor was delighted. He'd never seen nor faced a dark elemental before. Hayze was a tough opponent too, knocked Malefor right out of the ring! Knocked him out, even. [Page 44-50]
Then Malefor had to leave, but he couldn't stop thinking about Hayze. He'd never had such fun before. He had to see him again.
Master Amberius couldn't seem to give him an exact date... either way, it didn't sound like it would be soon.

So, naturally, Malefor waited until dark, and snuck out of the Ancestor Temple to find Hayze himself.
But then, he didn't really know where to go... the City seemed bigger now. Where was the Stormbringer Estate again?
Standing by the lake he'd emerged near, something, or rather someone ran past him.
Hayze. [Page 76]
Hayze planted his face into the lake. Must've been thirsty. Malefor was delighted, now they could train again! Or they could have; Hayze was not as excited. He said he was leaving the City... which Malefor noted was odd, as the gates typically don't open at night. And there was no gate where Hayze was going. It dawned on him, Hayze was running away too! To the Dark Lands, probably!
They could go there together, Malefor thought, running after Hayze who seemed less endeared to the idea... [Page 78-80]
But then, out of nowhere, the Warfang Guard shows up and starts attacking Hayze. Malefor is dumbfounded, he doesn't understand why this is happening. Hayze is arrested, and both are taken to the Elder Guardians; Hayze in magic chains. [Page 80-83, 87]
The entire Council convenes. They seem angry that Hayze tried to leave the City; accusing him of using mind control on Malefor. The Frostspears put an Ice blade to Hayze's throat, setting off the Stormbringer heir, Lynerius, to the point where Templars have to restrain him. [Page 88-95]
Then Frostspear calls for Hayze's execution, to Malefor's horror. He knows it's wrong to run away, like he himself did, but Malefor was nowhere near in such trouble. Hayze didn't deserve this. [Page 96, 97]
The servant, Jordhin, is called to take Malefor away. Malefor resists, turning back as things get more heated... Hayze is hurt, and Lynerius explodes in anger; Malefor too becomes angry; a fire sparking inside him. [Page 97-99]
The Frostspears move to execute Hayze, without the Council's approval. Malefor grows hot, furious; he breaks free from Jordhin's guidance, running back in to demand they all stop! [Page 100]
As he shouts, fire bursts from his mouth, exploding against the Frostspears face. His Element...? Malefor is shocked, but there's no time for that. He stands above Hayze, wielding his new Element with such ease it's as if he's always had it. Hayze is his friend, and Malefor will protect him. [Page 101-103]
The Elders whisper behind him, and bring their solution; Hayze will stay with them, with Malefor, at the Ancestor Temple. [Page 104]
Malefor, despite his exhaustion, is overjoyed.
Destiny Intertwined | Chapter 3
Not only had he finally awakened his Element, Malefor had a new friend! With an explosive greeting, Malefor took to showing Hayze around the Temple while also awaiting his first Elemental Evaluation. [Page 124-128]
During said evaluation, Malefor displayed not only impressive, but impossible mastery of his just-awakened Element. Despite not being the new Element the Council had hoped for, but plain standard Fire, this unprecedented mastery was certainly notable. [Page 140, 141]
Plunged into Fire training with Elder Guardian Amberius as his teacher, Malefor improved by the day... but he longed for something a little more exciting. He wondered, why doesn't Hayze train with him? The proposition took Amberius, and Hayze, by some surprise. [Page 164]
The Elder Guardian seemed willing, but Hayze was hesitant... He declined, despite expressing a desire in advancing his abilities.
When asked, Hayze expressed discomfort with their previous training session, wherein Amberius was teaching Malefor to kill Dark Dragon; Hayze's kind.
In a shockingly humble display (by their society's standards), Amberius bowed in apology for his part in the scheme to pit Malefor against Hayze. He offered to teach Hayze regardless, even if it meant Malefor would not benefit, for this would make Hayze, and by extension Malefor, safer. [Page 165, 166]
Though still somewhat hesitant, Hayze then agreed to practice alongside Malefor. Despite this not being a spar, Malefor was delighted. [Page 167]
Destiny Intertwined | Chapter 4
As part of Malefor's education, he visits the leading Clan estates. The Scions Aether Patriarch, Undacus, permits Hayze to come as well. Here, through a stone mural on the wall, the two learn about some former members of the Scions Aether Clan; namely General Skogur, its former Patriarch, and Zseurael, its former Heir.
Malefor knew the General, who once sat on the Council, and admired him deeply for his incredible power and achievements. He also spoke to Malefor when given the opportunity, praising him from his Earthly strength.
Zseurael, he did not know of. Amberius alleges that the former Heir is dead, but Terrenus interjects that Zseurael simply disappeared, and that many think he defected due to his aggressive criticisms of clans, the military, and Warfang's wars. Amberius resents this concept, but Arcadier intervenes before the conversation turns heated.
There was a third foreign figure on the mural, an Ice dragon. Hayze asks about her, for Amberius looks at her depiction with a sorrow. He admits she was Zseurael and Undacus' half-sister... and Amberius' own daughter.
Malefor did not know this. [Page 196-201]
The next morning, Malefor is preparing for his new Fire evaluation, for it had been three months since his elemental awakening. The revelation of his mentor's late child still lingering in his mind...
Suddenly Hayze appears, dragging Malefor out of his quarters without first helping him get dressed. Awkwardly fumbling his collar and cape, the two rush to the Temple's top floor balcony.
Hayze told him that the leading Fire Clan's Heir, Guard Commander Solsticus, had threatened Jordhin due to their attempted corruption.
Malefor sees the mistrust the Commander has in Jordhin to be fair enough; he doesn't know Jordhin like Malefor and Hayze do. He insists nothing will happen, for Jordhin is not a threat. Hayze, on the other hand, counters that Solsticus can simply twist, or even fabricate, a reason if he truly wants Jordhin gone.
Malefor doesn't understand this. He understands others are wary around Dark Dragons; they're the enemy, after all. Hayze disagrees; Farsanct is the enemy, not Dark Dragons. Malefor is confused, he's not talking about Hayze, Hayze isn't one of them.
But Hayze insists he is, he is a Dark Dragon no matter where he was raised. But Malefor disagrees, saying that because Hayze was raised in Warfang, he is good.
Angered, Hayze presses his beliefs, causing Malefor to snap, citing his destiny as proof, that the Ancestors want the dark destroyed, lest the Dark Dragons destroy Warfang first.
Hayze asks him why this destiny wouldn't affect Hayze too, which rattles Malefor.
With no time to process, he is pulled aside for his Fire evaluation. [Page 209-212]
Suddenly he finds himself in the dojo, target in front of him, as Amberius nudges him back to reality. The Council watches him, expectantly. Malefor lets loose an unimpressive fireball. Gently, Amberius encourages him to do better, to take a deep breath, reach deep for his Element and feel it... [Page 213, 214]
Malefor obliges, letting loose again. Instead of Fire, what hits the target is Ice. [Page 215, 216]
Abilities
Element
Malefor's Fire was awakened with unprecedented ability. Where other dragons must spend many years to reliably summon their Element, Malefor's Fire was his to control from the first second of its existence. He wields it with ease, displaying abilities and power levels associated with Class Four to Five mastery; an impossibility proven by three thousand years of recorded history, and yet, he can do it.
A few months later, his Fire becomes Ice.
Magic
Though focused on his Fire, its awakening brought Malefor the chance to finally practice non-elemental Magic as well. It's pretty easy so far. He likes his Fire better.
Physical
Malefor is a physical powerhouse. All those years he had no Element to train, he trained his body. Every day, every chance, fighting the magically animated practice dummies of the Temple Dojo; taught by war masters how to use his body to its fullest potential. He liked hitting hard more than dodging or cutting, so he built his strength.
Malefor is very tall—almost a giant—for his age, and his training shows in his build. Very few his age are a match in strength nor physical combat ability, and it takes an unusually strong Element to even level the playing field.
For some likely Earth heritage, and his stocky build, Malefor is not particularly fast on his legs nor his wings.
Family
Lineage unknown.
Relationships
Hayze
The two boys are opposites in many ways, from their personalities and to the way their society looks upon them. While initially overwhelmed, Hayze has gotten used to Malefor and his... eccentricities. His bluntness, and general lack of social skills, normally does not trouble Hayze.
Malefor, for his part, is ecstatic to have someone else his age at the Temple with him. Especially Hayze, who was so fun to train with and to talk to...
However, Malefor's common view of dark dragons eventually comes to light, and despite Hayze's friendship, he believes in his destiny to destroy the dark dragons of the east, lest they destroy Warfang first. He chooses to believe Hayze is different, and not truly a dark dragon due to being raised in Warfang. Hayze resents this, insisting that he is a dark dragon, and that Malefor cannot just contrive a reason as to why his destiny does not affect Hayze.
Amberius and the Elder Guardians
Among the Elder Guardians, Malefor is closest to Amberius. It is typically the Fire Elder who is at his side. All the Elders are to him what he supposes a family is, but Amberius feels... warmer.

Trivia
In the original vision of Destiny Intertwined, Malefor was the main character.
Malefor is named after the Realm's tallest mountain, the Mountain of Malefor (once referred to as Mountain of Maledict Forest). This is due to his element having been unknown/assumed new, so he could not be named after its nature. Instead, he was named after something grand and unrivaled.
Malefor is based on a game character of the same name. His design and concept is inspired by this character, but everything from his history, origins, personality/character, and his story as shown in Destiny Intertwined is entirely original to the comic.
